audi medical sources say Yemen's President Ali Abdullah Saleh is now awake and in good condition, after an operation in Riyadh that removed shrapnel from his chest. During Saleh's absence, Yemen's Vice President, Abdu Rabu Mansour Hadi, has assumed temporary power.
Wounded in an attack on his presidential palace, Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh, flew to Saudi Arabia for surgery on Sunday.
A Yemeni ruling party official said that after the operation, Saleh would return to his country within a few days. But the country's opposition says they will work with US officials and Gulf Arab leaders to prevent Saleh's return.
On Sunday, Yemen's state TV issued a denial of a media report that Saleh's family have flown with him to Saudi Arabia.
News presenter said, "An official source denied the reports on Al Jazeera TV about the departure of the family of the President with him to Saudi Arabia, where he arrived yesterday to take some medical tests after Friday's attack."
During Saleh's absence, Yemen's Vice President, Abdu Rabu Mansour Hadi, has assumed temporary power.
Hadi on Sunday removed troops and security checkpoints from downtown Sanaa, where government forces and tribesmen had fought for two weeks.
He also formed a committee headed by Yemen's intelligence chief, to supervise the implementation of his directions in a bid to cement the Saudi-brokered truce which took effect on Friday.
