Medical researchers have developed a credit card-sized plastic device that quickly tests human blood for infection, using a tiny microchip. In recent field tests in Rwanda, the device was able to provide extremely accurate diagnoses of HIV and syphilis infections -- in just 20 minutes. As VOA's Vidushi Sinha reports, this new "lab on a chip" promises a cheaper, easier and faster way to test people in remote parts of the developing world -- not just for HIV and syphilis, but for a wide range of infectious diseases.
